Hotel Review: Legacy Yen Tu – MGallery by Sofitel

“Tranquility at its finest.”

Legacy Yen Tu

Go somewhere close to nature or go somewhere unfamiliar. Either of the two is what I usually do to celebrate my birthday. A sort of a tradition every year. I’m doing this to be relieved, to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, and to have my senses put in order. It’s like a quick “treat to myself” after a year of hard work. I think it’s important to do it every once in a while, to reflect and somehow look back on the things you’ve achieved and you’ve learned in the past year. 🙂

Actually, my real intention here is to climb the Yen Tu Mountain. Do you know anything about it? I bet not, right, it’s not that of a well-known destination in Vietnam unlike the Ha Long Bay, Sapa, Ninh Binh, Da Nang, Hue, and Hoi An. (Read Article: Yen Tu: A journey to your essence to know more about this captivating spot in North Eastern Vietnam).

I can guarantee you, this is something you will treasure and I’m very ecstatic to share with you my experience staying at the Legacy Yen Tu – MGallery by Sofitel.

It’s always perfect if you know that there’s a room waiting for you at the bottom of the mountain right after enervating trekking. Especially if it’s not just an ordinary hotel, YES! a 5-star boutique hotel at the foot of the Yen Tu Mountain. It’s also the first mountain retreat in the province.

To give you a brief background, MGallery is a part of AccorHotels and has its own personality inspired by the three typical atmospheres like Heritage, Serenity, and Signature. Legacy Yen Tu exhibits Serenity as it promised a relaxing time in a natural retreat. It is located in the heart of Uong Bi city in the province of Quang Ninh, Vietnam.

Front Desk

Upon arrival at the hotel, I was welcomed by their caring and accommodating receptionists. Staff from the lobby handed me a cold towel and a drink which I really appreciated after a long and roasting journey. Indeed! Summer is in the air. I gave my passport and took them less than 5 minutes to check me in. I’m impressed with the fast and convenient check-in experience. Great Job guys!

I was escorted to my room and as I was walking, I saw this spot that reminded me of ancient palaces in Korea and China. It sparked my curiosity and I’m excited now to go around because I know there’s still a lot more to expect in this property.

Superior Twin Bed

My room is a spacious Superior Twin Bed and inspired by the 13th-century Vietnamese traditional decor. It also has a lanai that has a perfect view of nature as you open it early in the morning. Really perfect for relaxing, reflecting and quality time with your loved ones. The room lighting provides the perfect complement to the furniture and amenities.

Bedroom

Fire place

The bedroom comes with high-quality duvets and velvety pillows which is very inviting. So I have to give it a try. I swiftly jumped into the bed and I really love it. What an invitingly comfortable bed!

It has a walk-in closet, hot and cold shower, a reliable Wi-fi internet connection, a wide table or work desk, and a fireplace for winter. It is completed with essential room amenities like a safety deposit box, a mini fridge,2 bottled water, a mini bar, a complimentary fresh fruits and drinks, toiletries, a hairdryer, and a coffee and tea making equipment.

Restaurant and Bar

The property features an all-day dining experience to guests at Tho Quang Restaurant. Buffet breakfast was also served here around 6:30 am til 10:30 am. You can also order Ala Carte until 10:30 pm. The place offers a pleasant and archaic Vietnamese themed ambiance. They served healthy local and international cuisines focusing on vegetarian dishes.

Thien Quan Bar

It’s a unique option for guests who would like to experience fine dining and cocktails. It also caters a view of the Yen Tu village which is perfect for your snacks, an afternoon tea or coffee. The bar lounge opens at 11 am and closes at 11 pm.

Room Service

The hotel offers a 24/7 room service. It is perfect when hunger pangs attack you any time of the day and if you’re too lazy going out in your room. There are a lot of local and international dishes you can choose from. In my case, most of the time I’ve ordered their mouthwatering desserts with a twist basically with a touch of Vietnam taste.

        Buffalo Pho

        Creme Brulee with Ice cream

Hotel Facilities and Activities

Guests can enjoy the other hotel facilities and activities waiting for them. Yes, you heard it right. There are interesting activities that you might be like trying. Like Yoga, Aqua aerobics, The Village’s Festival Night, Cartoon Movie watching for kids and a lot more. It varies on days and occasions (public holidays, etc.). The Front Desk team will be happy to assist you with your queries, so feel free to ask them anytime.

The hotel has an outdoor pool surrounded by trees and comfy outdoor beds. Unfortunately, during my stay, it was under construction as well as the Fitness Center and Spa. Though it doesn’t really matter for me it might be for some. So better check it with the hotel first before booking.

In addition, I’ve noticed a lot of books at the reception area and they said, they’re actually lending those books to their guest for a limited time. So if you are a bookworm and will stay around for quite some time, that might interest you.

Legacy Yen Tu – MGallery by Sofitel gives the vibe of calmness, serenity and the cosmos. It features the ancient Yen Tu’s architecture and designs. It’s like a perfect world to me, a combination of my two favorite leisure activities together, trekking and staycation. This is indeed an ideal place for a hike, to relax and contemplate with nature and amazing landscapes.

They made my birthday extra special, the outstanding service from Reception (Ha, Huyen, Tu, Thuc, Hieu), Concierge, Restaurant (Lien), Room Service, Housekeeping and to the General Manager, Mr. Oreste Traetto. THANK YOU! I couldn’t ask for more and It’s such a great stay that I’m looking forward to experience again in the future.

So if you happen to visit the Ha Long Bay, I would highly recommend this off the beaten track destination of Yen Tu which is just an hour away from it.

In general, It is indeed an unforgettable night as I experience the 13th century of Vietnam’s traditional decor from the facade up to the meticulous attention to details in the room and the facilities around the property. A different encounter of Vietnam’s culture, history, and tradition. You will get to experience, tranquility at its finest. I don’t know when, but I know I’m definitely going back.

What a beautiful hotel! And also, great idea celebrating your birthday in the nature. I always try to celebrate it traveling, but I might copy you and add the nature nuance, it’s healthier and batteries are more recharged!
